{"id":975,"date":"2015-02-06T22:16:27","date_gmt":"2015-02-07T06:16:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nocontest.ca\/?p=975"},"modified":"2015-02-06T22:16:27","modified_gmt":"2015-02-07T06:16:27","slug":"the-unending-report-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nocontest.ca\/index.php\/2015\/02\/06\/the-unending-report-card\/","title":{"rendered":"The unending report card"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a development that would have stricken terror in me in my elementary-school days, a Langley, BC school district is employing a new software platform that allows parents to monitor their children&#8217;s work &#8211; and grades &#8211; on a daily basis. <a title=\"Vancouver schools\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouversun.com\/technology\/report+cards+enter+social+media\/10791177\/story.html\">Vancouver Sun author Tracy Sherlock writes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Report cards are entering the social media age as new software called FreshGrade allows real-time sharing and reporting on student progress.<\/p>\n<p>Tracy Cramer, a kindergarten teacher at Richard Bullpit elementary school in Langley, has been using FreshGrade since the beginning of this school year and says she loves it because it makes communicating with parents so easy and it makes doing her students\u2019 report cards relatively painless.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeachers get anxious around this time because of report cards. But I have all my evidence there &#8230; so I just have to go in and add a few comments and my report cards are done,\u201d Cramer said.<\/p>\n<p>She says the program gives the kids \u2014 even in kindergarten \u2014 ownership of their work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey will do something that they\u2019re so proud of and they will say to me, \u2018Can you put this on my portfolio so mommy and daddy can see it?\u2019\u201d Cramer said. \u201cI can do it instantaneously \u2014 I push \u2018share\u2019 and the parents get it right away.
