{"id":722,"date":"2013-12-06T16:14:01","date_gmt":"2013-12-07T00:14:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nocontest.ca\/?p=722"},"modified":"2013-12-06T16:14:01","modified_gmt":"2013-12-07T00:14:01","slug":"you-talk-just-fine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nocontest.ca\/index.php\/2013\/12\/06\/you-talk-just-fine\/","title":{"rendered":"You talk just fine?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When teaching oral communications to my students, I don&#8217;t feel comfortable critiquing those who speak in &#8220;<a title=\"Uptalk\" href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=uptalk\">uptalk,<\/a>&#8221; that habit of ending sentences with a rising inflection so that declarative sentences sometimes seem to sound like questions. To me that would be like asking people to change their maritime or southern accents: snobby and obnoxious.<\/p>\n<p>At any rate, the folk at <a title=\"Language Log\" href=\"http:\/\/languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu\/nll\/index.php?s=uptalk\">Language Log are on the case<\/a>.
